Legend of the Red Dragon

Overview

This is one of the popular door games of all time due to its humor and good replay value.

Door Settings

Installation Folder

You may run LORD from any folder as long as the path is compatible with MS-DOS.  For example, you cannot run the game from a network share (a mapped drive might be OK).  Avoid deeply nested folders.  This document assumes you have installed the game at C:\BBS\LORD.

LORD should be started by calling START.BAT in its folder.  START.BAT is installed by LORD.  Open START.BAT and change the CD command to use your LORD installation folder.

Configure the Game

Run LORDCFG.EXE in your LORD installation folder.  You will be prompted to reset the game if you're running the configuration program for the first time.  Do not reset the game if you're migrating an existing LORD installation from another BBS system.

Option (3): BBS Software

Select Main -> Configure Nodes.  Select option #3 (BBS Software) and select QBBS.  Select the option to read DORINFO1.DEF for all nodes.  LORD does not care what BBS software you are using; it really wants to know which drop file you are using.  A drop file is a special type of file that contains user and communications settings.

Option (4): Path to dropfile

Change this field to the LORD installation folder (e.g. C:\LORD\BBS\).

Option (5): Fossil / Internal

Select Regular Fossil Driver (Most used setting)

Option (7): Comport

Select the option to read the comport from the drop file.

Virtual FOSSIL Driver Settings

Legend of the Red Dragon is an MS-DOS program (not a Windows program) and therefore you need to install a special type of driver that allows the program to work under Windows telnet programs like Thought.  This documentation assumes you will be using the NETFOSS freeware FOSSIL driver.
